What Is The GLOBAL INTERGRATED JOINT OPERATING ENTITY?

"G.I. Joe is now a Brussels-based outfit that stands for Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity, an international co-ed force of operatives who use hi-tech equipment to battle Cobra, an evil organization headed by a double-crossing Scottish arms dealer. The property is closer in tone to X-Men and James Bond than a war film." = new updated script/story-concept for the G.I.Joe Movie via IGN, which further "alienates" the property to our fondly-remembered childhood-memories, innit? (not saying tis good nor bad tho...)
DESTRO2

"Although the new G.I. Joe team will be international in scope, don't expect Joe's British counterpart Action Man to be included after all. IESB.net reports, "Looks like he will be gone, this new script is set to be 100% GI Joe, it will revolve around the characters we all grew up with fighting Cobra, Destro, the Baroness and Storm Shadow. When do they expect to have this new script ready? Six to eight weeks. Pre-production is expected to start by October-November and production to start early '08."

as far as im concerned, these are the bare
minimum-characters they should have in the movie:

*heh* ... but this parting shot from producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura
is the real kicker (for me):

"My experience with beloved properties is that characters, attitude and tone are even more important than plot. ... Paramount showed a great deal of confidence in Stephen's take, and our ability as producers to get this up and running for a February start. His passion for the characters and the world convinced the studio this was something they couldn't resist."

... woh boy ....

And So The G.I.Joe Movie Is A GO

and so the G.I.Joe movie is a GO! with director Stephen Sommers (Van Helsing, The Mummy) helming this live-action adaptation (or re-invention?) of popular 80's cartoon based on Hasbro's military figures, and an obvious "rekindled" franchise to come (hopefully for the powers-that-be, i reckon LOL) ... and of coz i hadda do a quickie-bash for good ol'Joe and his buddy, Action Man, innit? :p

About That G.I.Joe Movie...

so is the new G.I.Joe live-action feature film going to be a "buddy-movie"? with "Action Man" as his counterpart?

this was what producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura (Transformers, Shooter) had to say about script-writer Skip Woods, the script-direction and considering having Mark Wahlberg for the role of "DUKE" (circa March'07 / via LatinoReview):

"He just finished working on 'Die Hard 4.' I don't know if he's fully credited or not, but Skip worked on 'Swordfish' with me at Warner Brothers. Do you know Action Man? Action Man is the equivalent of G.I. Joe internationally pretty much. It's a different character, but pretty much the same idea and his name is Alex Mann. So we're creating a buddy movie between Duke and Alex. That's what we're doing. All the characters will be there and it'll be really fun, but unfortunately our president has put us in a position internationally where it would be very difficult to release a movie called 'G.I. Joe' internationally in a lot of places. I'm a big G.I. Joe fan and to add one character to the mix is sort of a fun thing to do." = read more here

and as reported on IESB (circa 14-Aug'07 / via) "the Action Man team up idea is still in the works, and that "Transporter" actor Jason Statham is being considered to play the British role alongside his "Italian Job" co-star Mark Wahlberg as Duke"

"The producers are keen on keeping the Action Man character in the film to make marketing of the film easier abroad including using that name for international territories to avoid any potential negative reactions that some parts of the world may have with the name GI Joe.

The new GI Joe/Action Man team is expected to be made up of various individuals from around the world and will not be exclusively American or British. The characters will still be based from the original cartoons, toys and comics but with a globe-trotting flavor."

frankly, i've sat on this "news" for the longest time, hoping that the "concept" would "go away, in time", but alas, my hopes were dashed (LOL) ... but i don't wanna go off ranting about my fav childhood-memories being butt-fcuked (Transformers notwithstanding, 'natch) by Hollywood and whatnot ... and i'd wanna keep my mind open to whatever possibilities that await the resurrection of my childhood-"heroes" ... so we'll see what toys the folks'll wanna be selling, yeh? oops! - i mean, "well see what the celluloid future holds for fans all over" ... *heh*

and as much as i wanna see how they treat Snake-eyes and Storm Shadow, what i'm really interested in, is how they'd be treating COBRA, innit? terrorists instead of world-dominators?

"i should have front-billing 'coz it's my movie!"

MISSION PERIMETERS

and hence i've decided to start a fanblog for the impending G.I.Joe Movie - which will eventually (and hopefully) be updated with news and rumors surrounding the Stephen Sommers-directed live-action adaptation of Hasbro's (and our collective childhood's memories) action figure toy-series and cartoon ... and maybe some "surprises" along the way too :)

GO, JOE!
