I remember loving the tease of the film right up to the premiere of the first G.I.Joe movie (and of the slight disappointment thereafter, even tho I did enjoy the flick myself) … and I find myself infinitely excited again for this movie's sequel: G.I. Joe: Retaliation - with this new trailer. And yes, I cannot wait to see it NOW! And yes Adrianne Palicki is all forgiven for her turn as Wonder Woman, because I absolutely love her as "Lady Jaye" here!

This blogspot has been left barren for an extended period of time but for a variety of as-yet unposted features and even a movie review of the G.I.Joe movie (which look insipid on first viewing, but became somewhat entertaining on a DVD repeat viewing). Nevertheless, that time has gone, and we prepare ourselves for the coming of the full-feature sequel: "G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation"! To be directed by Jon M. Chu and produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura - actors reprising their roles from the first movie include Channing Tatum ("Duke"), Ray Park ("Snake Eyes"), and Byung Hun-lee ("Shadow Storm").

New "recruits" for the franchise has since been added to the list - including Dwayne Johnson as "Roadblock" (pic seen above), Ray Stevenson as "Firefly", RZA as "Blind Master", and Adrianne Palicki as "Lady Jaye". Today's news sees Bruce Willis in talks for a role as "General Joe Colton", the original G.I. Joe. "In the ’80s comic book series, the character is the one who forms the G.I. Now, I've been totally behind on my coverage of G.I Joe: The Rise of Cobra (some may say tis a good thing ;p) but lemme try to make it up with this video review by "Mister Clown" who unmasks Hasbro's 12 inch COBRA COMMANDER based on the movie character! Action Figure Insider first posted the video which is embedded above. *WARNING: CLICK-PLAY-FOR-SPOILER*

Somehow I can't help but feel the transparency element of the mask is japanese kaiju-vinyl influenced. Regardless, for US$15 it would make a pretty cool kitbash-fodder, yeh? IMHO, of coz :)

Fair enough I know not the circumstance surrounding this particular scene, but a full-faced-covered dude with samurai-swords down the back doesn't necessarily equate: "He's one of the Good Guys. Let's Trust Him With Our Meaningless Lives", innit? ... But hey, that's just me. heh.

Apologies to TRE-readers, for this post (with image-montage above-left) was actually started prior to the beginning of the Chinese New Year (where I'd subsequently slacked-off and did nothing else but eat new-year-goodies, drank soda and got fatter *burp*) and upon coming back now, it doesn't seem as "funny" as I'd intended it to be (have been) ... if fact, it think the development of what could potentially be the reveal of DESTRO's iron-mask (above-right) in the live-action G.I.Joe movie is pretty tragic, IMHO. Upon second look, the features look like an Easter Island statue. *yikes*

The thing about nameless-henchmen are; you need a whole buncha them to be "effective", innit? Otherwise they're just - ya know - be an illegal gathering of (normally) well-armed thugs with torrid-aim, innit? So you'd need at the very least 2x Cobra Troopers, to at least guard and flank COBRA COMMANDER, innit? heh. (And if they're wearing Darth Vader-isque helmets, all the better :p)

The Netherlands-based Film1.nl scored a trio of pics from the Cinema EXPO in Amsterdam [via] which features character shots of Ray Park as SNAKE-EYES, Sienna Miller as BARONESS and Channing Tatum as DUKE (click on individual link to view) ... and yes, seems that the full title for the G.I.Joe movie has been revealed to be .... G.I. JOE: RISE OF COBRA - which I think would be best served to exclaim with gusto, like *RRRRISE OF COOOOBBRRAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!* (inclusive of Cobra Commander's clench-fist waving in the air) - for maximum effect, 'natch ... and here's an added "bonus-pic" below from the prior Licensing show in New York (with image via picsmcgee.com) which unfortunately a post I've prepared for has lapsed - but I'm not one to waste any images innit? *cough*

Ninja, Commando, deadly force of nature... These terms merely scratch the surface of the enigma known as Snake Eyes.

... I've suddenly got this funny feeling that MOVIE-Cobra Commander will look like this Hasbro San Diego Comic-Con Exclusive figure [via] ... and man, I sure hope I'm utterly wrong tho! As "funny" as a battle-helmet may look on a live-person (IMHO), a rag draped over with holes cut-out would similarly be both ridiculous and perhaps even offensive - but of coz this is pure speculation on my part, yeh? Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays the exhalted G.I.Joe nemesis (he looks sorta like a young Heath Ledger, dunt he?) and along with Destro, whose "final"-look may remain a mystery ... until an image-leak comes along, that is! LOL

Currently missing from the image line-up are Joseph Gordon-Levitt as COBRA COMMANDER and Arnold Vosloo as ZARTAN. Directed by Stephen Sommers, the G.I.JOE Movie is slated for a debut on August 7th, 2009 - more than a year away!

Personally, one of the key-aspects of G.I.Joe comicbooks I used to enjoy - besides the characters themselves - was the sheer diversity of their uniforms! Each and every member had their own distinct-look, while still maintaining a quasi-military dress-code (DC Comics' Legion of Superheroes pops into mind - individualistic, but each recognizable as Legion-gear, IMHO) - and with that notion in me wee mind and opinion, the COBRA-faction (which includes Destro, Baroness and Strom Shadow - Cobra Commander is missing from the line-up and will continue to be so, I reckon) would be visually "interesting" (does not necessarily equate "well designed"), while the JOES' uniformity in battle-gear - tho cool - is also in danger of being pretty blah - the stylish amongst them is General Hawk! LOL (there's also Cover Girl - last seen in grey urban-camo *cough*) and suddenly I'm worried about not being able to identify them as they run thru the darkness, innit? What with them decked out in black+dark-gear, innit? ... But I'm sure the filmmakers have that well in hand (*crosses-fingers*).

"HAWK is the code name of Major General Clayton M. Abernathy. He is the commander of the G.I. Joe Team. Born in Denver, Colorado, he comes from a wealthy family whose influence enabled him to enroll in West Point where he graduated at the top of his class. Hawk is the original field commander of the G.I. Joe Team. Gen. Lawrence J. Flagg was the original commanding officer for the team's first few years. Hawk, who was a Colonel then, was responsible for recruiting most of the roster that made up the first Joe Team. He quickly gains their respect by personally leading missions and engaging the enemy head on.

Snake-Eyes Revealed!

AICN has two Snake-Eyes still images from the upcoming live-action G.I.Joe feature film up (with Ray Park snuggled underneath) and it looks pretty darn effin' cool, it does, besides the obligatory muscle-suit prevailant in all blardy-Hollywood genre-flicks of late, it still retains a parred-down feel without frills, except for the Arashikage ninja clan symbol on-shoulder and katana-blade (whoo-hoo!) and military-issue webgear = *noice* ... let's hope the rest of the crew can maintain this notion of design, maybe?

SHH reports: "He's the world's greatest ninja, but he's also next-generation. He's not afraid to use a sword one second, and a split-second later he's pulling out his Glock," (director; Stephen) Sommers told USA Today. "His chief nemesis is arguably the world's other great ninja, Storm Shadow. The two grew up together, were blood brothers and now are mortal enemies."

Sommers stressed that the movie is an origins story, so his challenge is to explain why the bad guy wears a metal mask, why Snake Eyes doesn't talk and other strange things kids took for granted. "For people who know nothing about it, it'll make sense," Sommers said. "And to people who love this stuff, it'll show where they all came from."

seems like the position of G.I.Joe field commander; DUKE has been filled, with Channing Tatum, "a 27 year old actor from Alabama" [via AICN] - star of "Step Up", while i remember him in "She's The Man" (becoz of Amanda Bynes *cough*). previous actors associated with this role include Mark Wahlberg and George Clooney (!). seems the filmmakers be going by way of pop-tween casting (with Ripcord reportedly a buddy of Duke's). no violent reactions from my end, til the movie screens, 'natch :p

this was what producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura (Transformers, Shooter) had to say about script-writer Skip Woods, the script-direction and considering having Mark Wahlberg for the role of "DUKE" (circa March'07 / via LatinoReview):

"He just finished working on 'Die Hard 4.' I don't know if he's fully credited or not, but Skip worked on 'Swordfish' with me at Warner Brothers. Do you know Action Man? Action Man is the equivalent of G.I. Joe internationally pretty much. It's a different character, but pretty much the same idea and his name is Alex Mann. So we're creating a buddy movie between Duke and Alex. That's what we're doing. All the characters will be there and it'll be really fun, but unfortunately our president has put us in a position internationally where it would be very difficult to release a movie called 'G.I. Joe' internationally in a lot of places. I'm a big G.I. Joe fan and to add one character to the mix is sort of a fun thing to do." = read more here
