THE RISE OF COBRA SUPER BOWL TV SPOT

I really wanna see more before commenting tho ... meanwhile before the "official" trailer hits this weekend U.S.-time - here be some screengrabs AND personal commentary (altho I still can't get the darned slideshow to present in order of my placement gggrrrr).

Decent armor-detailing, IMHO... please don't let the toys suck, please don't let the toys suck! And I'm talking about the 12 inch figures. I don't really care much for the other scales (becoz I've no history with them myself *sobs*). And if anyone does expansion uniform sets? Sans bodies? ARMY-BUILDING-TIME! muahahahaha - finances be damned!

Personally speaking (regardless of comicbook origins or logic) I would have hoped Snake-Eyes was more of a covert-operative, ya know? Not a bouncing-about on a public city-street making all those ninja-moves for all and sundry to peep at, in broad-blardy-daylight, innit? Fair enough I know not the circumstance surrounding this particular scene, but a full-faced-covered dude with samurai-swords down the back doesn't necessarily equate: "He's one of the Good Guys. Let's Trust Him With Our Meaningless Lives", innit? ... But hey, that's just me. heh.

STORM SHADOW PROMO CHARACTER POSTER IMAGE

STORMSHADOW

WHO: "Storm Shadow is a fictional character from the G.I. Joe comics series and television shows. The character is best known for his history with fellow ninja Snake-Eyes. Throughout their history, the duo have been everything to one another from the bitterest of enemies, to the most loyal of friends (and blood brothers) who would fight and die for one another."

"Storm Shadow's real name is Thomas S. Arashikage (トーマス・嵐影) (Arashi = "Storm" and kage = "shadow" in Japanese). Best known as the Cobra Commander's ninja bodyguard and assassin at times, he is the only member of the team to change sides several times, conflicted in loyalties between Cobra, G.I. Joe, and his long relationship with his sword-brother Snake-Eyes. He usually wears a white uniform and mask. When out of his uniform, he is shown to be Japanese, with black hair and dark eyes." [wiki]

WHO-IS: In G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra; South Korean actor Lee Byung-hun plays the adult Storm Shadow.

Peep the Storm Shadow poster-image, to add the previously released ones HERE.

STORM-SHADOW

TRE-IMPRESSION: I am utterly befuddled at the costume-choice for this particular ninja tho. Lost in limbo between a "Aristocratic-rich-man-playing-at-ninja" and "Confused-popstar-who-lost-his-memory-while-enroute-to-a-concert-performance". I am confused about the coat-tails tho, like, seriously. hhmm.

GIJOE-POSTERS

Character poster-images of Duke, Scarlett, Snake-Eyes, Ripcord and The Baroness brightened a tad via photoshop (but of coz) to show a little bit more of their armor (heh) - but what I couldn't do was to give them back their "eyes" (the poster images came like that).

IRON MASKS THRU THE AGES: DESTRO'S MASK REVEALED?

Apologies to TRE-readers, for this post (with image-montage above-left) was actually started prior to the beginning of the Chinese New Year (where I'd subsequently slacked-off and did nothing else but eat new-year-goodies, drank soda and got fatter *burp*) and upon coming back now, it doesn't seem as "funny" as I'd intended it to be (have been) ... if fact, it think the development of what could potentially be the reveal of DESTRO's iron-mask (above-right) in the live-action G.I.Joe movie is pretty tragic, IMHO. Upon second look, the features look like an Easter Island statue. *yikes*

SIDESHOW TOYS 1/6 COBRA TROOPER

The thing about nameless-henchmen are; you need a whole buncha them to be "effective", innit? Otherwise they're just - ya know - be an illegal gathering of (normally) well-armed thugs with torrid-aim, innit? So you'd need at the very least 2x Cobra Troopers, to at least guard and flank COBRA COMMANDER, innit? heh. (And if they're wearing Darth Vader-isque helmets, all the better :p)
COBRA-TROOPERS

The earlier-teased 12-inch COBRA TROOPER from Sideshow Collectibles is now listed for pre-order HERE @ US$99.99 for an estimated 2nd quarter 2009-drop. And like all henchmen, they don utilitarian overalls and wield generic weapons, ready to fall at any given stray bullet/s - I wonder if henchmen ever get sent to shooting school? Becoz they never seem to be able to shoot and hit their targets for nuts, innit? (heh). Well, the intense glare from the eyes in the headsculpt may perhaps be a formidable weapon, yeh? heh.

The Cobra Trooper 12 inch Figure features:

* Fully articulated Prometheus male body with 30+ points of articulation
* Cobra Trooper portrait with facemask
* Helmet
* Shirt with COBRA insignias
* Pants
* Boots
* Detailed belt
* Smersh rig with buttpack
* AK 74 with folding stock
* AK 74 magazine
* AK 74 bayonet with sheath
* Gun sight
* Grenade launcher with round
* Kneepads
* Handgun with magazine and leg holster
* Canteen with fabric cover
* 3 sets of interchangeable gloved hands
* 12-inch display base with G.I. Joe logo

"There are many scales on the belly of the COBRA organization. Outcasts, deserters, and those who are disillusioned are the typical candidates that COBRA targets to join their forces.

These anonymous individuals that swell the COBRA infantry begin their careers as COBRA Troopers. They are usually the first COBRA forces encountered in combat by the G.I. Joe team on their missions. These troops, or "blueshirts" as the Joe team refers to them, are forces to be reckoned with. Each trooper is trained in many different forms of hand-to-hand combat, extensive weapons and demolitions handling, as well as disguise and stealth.

This physical and psychological training molds these individuals into sadistic and hardened troopers. With COBRA cells spread across the globe, troopers may be dispatched anywhere in order to carry out their missions. COBRA demands complete and unwavering loyalty to their high command but more importantly to their objective of world domination.

Only those most merciless on the battlefield, ruthless in their ambition and lustful for power can climb the ranks in COBRA. The same maniacal traits which fuel COBRA Commander slither in the veins of each COBRA Trooper........COBRA!"

G.I.JOE: THE RISE OF COBRAG.I.JOE: THE RISE OF COBRA

RISE-OF-COBRA

The Netherlands-based Film1.nl scored a trio of pics from the Cinema EXPO in Amsterdam [via] which features character shots of Ray Park as SNAKE-EYES, Sienna Miller as BARONESS and Channing Tatum as DUKE (click on individual link to view) ... and yes, seems that the full title for the G.I.Joe movie has been revealed to be .... G.I. JOE: RISE OF COBRA - which I think would be best served to exclaim with gusto, like *RRRRISE OF COOOOBBRRAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!* (inclusive of Cobra Commander's clench-fist waving in the air) - for maximum effect, 'natch ... and here's an added "bonus-pic" below from the prior Licensing show in New York (with image via picsmcgee.com) which unfortunately a post I've prepared for has lapsed - but I'm not one to waste any images innit? *cough*

JOE-LICENSE

...am not too sure, but I may have read somewhere that Cobra creates an underground digger-machine-thingie to threaten the Earth? was that for the movie? Or comic book? Or my senility gone walkabout? Dr Evil would be proud tho ... Quick! Someone say it's a display prop or I'll start shedding manly-tears! ... heh.

CoolToyReview was at the Hasbro - G.I.Joe Panel Coverage @ SCDCC - which included introductions / discussions on a new online G.I.Joe animated series written by Warren Ellis (!) and G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra [tagged], as well as scenes on the movie! Check out their write-up HERE and here are some selected processed pics:

**some plot-points were revealed G.I. JOE: THE RISE OF COBRA

- "relationships between Baronness & Duke (who were once engaged!), Scarlett & Ripcord (a love-hate relationship), Snake Eyes & Storm Shadow (they have a history going back to when they were 10 years old)."

- Snake Eyes will be blocking Roadblock's efforts to swoon Scarlett. There will be lots of action, so the romances will not take the center stage.

- Cobra Commander will be in the movie.

- IDW is the new comic partner.

SIDESHOW TOYS 1/6 COBRA COMMANDER @ SAN DIEGO COMIC CON 2008

COBRA-COMMANDER

Sideshow Collectibles' 1/6-scaled COBRA COMMANDER blogged] made his debut @ SDCC and CoolToyReview has uber-sweet crips-pics of his Cobro-ness!

Have no issues with a molded-cowl, becoz frankly, a tailored-cloth one may be tricky to keep in place (you don't want to go off ironing a 1/6th-scaled cowl, do you? LOL) ... and so would his feature-film 1:1-counterpart be dressed in a similar fashion? *hhhmmmmm* ... altho the Cobra-cane be quite pimpin' ... LOL

SNAKE-EYES joins the Cobra Leader for the SDCC-Spotlight - loaded to bare:

... altho there's something about the tailored-mask that always leave s a "buldge" (becoz of hem-lines) ... perhaps folks can consider a "flocked" molded-headsculpt, for a tactile-parallel of cloth? IMHO, of coz :p ... GO PEEP CoolToyReview [all images via] for more Cobra & Snake-Eyes-goodness! (and higher-res images)
